  Kerstin Anita Marianne Ekberg (Swedish pronunciation (listen) 29 September 1931 - 11 January 2015) was an Swedish actress who appeared in American and European films, known for her beauty and stunning body. She gained notoriety for her iconic character in the role of Sylvia in the Federico Fellini film La Dolce Vita (1960). Ekberg was born in Sweden on the 29th September 1931. She was the sixth child of eight. Anita was a model during her teens. Ekberg entered the Miss Malmo competition in 1950 after her mother's encouragement. This resulted in her winning the Miss Sweden contest. Despite speaking little English Ekberg travelled to America to compete for the Miss Universe 1951 title.
